- - - - - - - - - - | Antique pair of Maritime shell shadow box Victorian picture frames Item # 2574 Click HERE to inquire about this item Antique Maritime sea shell shadow boxes,Antique pair of sea shell shadow box Victorian picture frames. This extremely rare pair of early Victorian "shadow boxes" or "frames" each measures outside,17 and one half inches by 14 and one half inches, depth is from 3 and one quarter inches to 4 inches and the inside measures 12 and one quarter by 9 and one half inches. This pair of frames were made from sea shells, some rare and extinct, that are arranged on their outside to look like flowers and the sea shore. The workmanship in this pair is very similar to the best sailors valentines we have seen.Condition, There is some minor damage to one, that is to be expected, which we show in one of the photographs provided and some shells are missing in various places. This pair is so beautiful and well done they belong in a museum. In all the years we have been selling antiques this is the only pair of shell frames that we have been able to acquire. They just came in from the estate of the famous Old Lyme Connecticut impressionist Artist Guy Wiggins.
